Countdown 2019

A Deadly App That Predicts Your Last Breath

Countdown begins with a group of friends having a casual party where one downloads a mysterious app called "Countdown." It is said to predict the exact moment a person will die. Amused, they all try it, but the fun soon turns grim as one of them, Courtney, sees that she has only a few hours left to live. She brushes it off as a joke and heads home alone, but the weird events that occurred continue to follow her; at zero on the app, some supernatural force takes Courtney's life in this mysterious and brutal accident. It then follows Quinn Harris, a hardworking nurse at the hospital who tries to balance her career and personal life following the death of her mother.

While taking care of a patient, Evan, who barely survived from a car accident, she finds out about the app from him. Evan is terrified because his countdown shows that he has less than a day to live. Curious and skeptical, Quinn downloads the app for herself to find she only has three days left. As Quinn begins to notice strange events occur around her, Evan suddenly dies in the hospital under circumstances eerily similar to what the app predicted, which starts to set her growing fear that maybe the app's predictions might, in fact, be real. Quinn confides in her younger sister, Jordan, trying most of the time to brush off impending danger. Of course, this feeling deepens when she sees a dark, shadowy entity and strange hallucinations. Quinn seeks answers from Matt, another victim of the app desperate to be free from its deadly countdown.

Together, they find a somewhat unorthodox priest, Father John, who tells them the app may be part of a demon curse with contracts involved.

He sets them in the path of a hacker highly knowledgeable in technology named Derek, who tries deleting the application off their phones but finds it reinstalls itself automatically. Derek also finds some kinds of codes in the app that refer to a demonic figure. Quinn and Matt are in a race against time, seeking ways to outsmart the countdown. They discover a temporary loophole to escape their certain doom by violating terms of service in which the boys avoid specific situations that will complete the predicted circumstances. Then, the malicious force punishes them for trying to trick death. Meanwhile, Quinn learns her sister Jordan also downloaded the app and is going to die similarly, just hours after her. As the countdowns tick closer to zero, Quinn learns that the demon feeds on fear and despair, thriving on the inevitability of its victims' deaths. She decides to turn tables on the curse by making herself the bait, to protect Jordan and break the cycle. Along with Matt, she devises a very risky plan that will hopefully end the hold the app has on them by locating and destroying its source. It's a climax of extreme battle as Quinn, against the demon, faces the chilling showdown, fighting not only for her life but also for Jordan's.

Matt sacrifices himself in a heroic attempt to save Quinn, leaving her to face her deepest fears alone.

Quinn draws upon her memories of her late mother and her own resilience to find a way to disrupt the demon's power.

She destroys her phone in the final act of rebellion, separating the app from her life once and for all. The film then ends on a very bittersweet note when Quinn and Jordan emerge from the traumatic experience alive, but with scars. Now rebuilding their lives, it chillingly twists the story when the app spreads to newer users, which hints that the underlying curse is not over yet. With the sound of a countdown timer, the screen fades to black, leaving the audience with a lingering sense of dread. Countdown merges elements of supernatural horror with the twists and angles of a story that's modern in nature, making it a technological, frightening tale of survival in the digital age.
