Cinematographer Dariusz Wolski contributes to the visually stunning narrative, and "Prometheus" sets the stage for its sequel, "Alien: Covenant." The movie's release date on May 31, 2012, in the UK marked the beginning of an enthralling journey into the mysteries of mankind's existence in the vastness of the cosmos.

The story begins in the year 2089 with the discovery of ancient cave paintings on Earth that depict a star map. Elizabeth Shaw (played by Noomi Rapace) interprets these paintings as an invitation from an extraterrestrial race, which she believes holds the key to the origins of humanity.

Fast forward to the year 2093, and the spaceship Prometheus, funded by the Weyland Corporation and led by the pragmatic Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), along with its android David (Michael Fassbender), and a diverse crew, arrives at the distant moon LV-223. The crew's mission is to explore a mysterious structure that matches the star map found on Earth. Inside the structure, the team discovers a vast chamber containing a series of urns, which seem to contain a black, bioengineered substance. As they investigate further, they also find the preserved body of a humanoid extraterrestrial, later referred to as an Engineer.

David secretly conducts experiments with the black substance, infecting Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), one of the crew members, who unknowingly impregnates Shaw. Meanwhile, other crew members are killed by mutated creatures born from the black substance.

Shaw learns that the Engineers were planning to release the black substance on Earth to destroy humanity, and she is determined to stop them. Vickers is revealed to be the daughter of Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), the elderly CEO of the Weyland Corporation, who is aboard the ship in stasis.

Shaw discovers that the Engineers are not happy with humanity and want to wipe it out. The surviving crew members try to escape the moon as the Engineer, awakened from stasis, pursues them. David communicates with the Engineer and learns that they created humanity but are now disappointed with it. Shaw manages to escape the moon with the help of the surviving android, David, who has his own agenda. The Engineer, however, survives and is determined to reach Earth.

In the end, Shaw and David set off to find the Engineers' home world to seek answers about the creation of humanity and to potentially prevent the Engineers from carrying out their destructive plans on Earth.
