The film was released in the UK on May 31, 2012, and that was the beginning of a fascinating adventure for looking for the questions regarding the humankind's existence mystery among the vastness of space.
The story begins in the year 2089 on Earth, where cave paintings of ancient origin are discovered which depict a star map. Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace, recognizes this as an invitation from an alien race, one that she believes holds the answer to human origins.
This is 2093, and the spaceship Prometheus lands on a remote moon called LV-223, provided by the Weyland Corporation, led by the pragmatic Meredith Vickers, played by Charlize Theron, accompanied by her android David, played by Michael Fassbender, and very diverse crew. The crew is there to explore the alien structure, which had matched the star map found on Earth. Inside, they come across a large chamber with vessels containing life-forms in rows and some sort of black, bioengineered substance. Continuing their search efforts, the group also discovers the preserved body of a humanoid extraterrestrial, later referred to as an Engineer.
David secretly tries the black substance, infecting one of his crew members, Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), who then unknowingly impregnates Shaw. Meanwhile, other crew members are dying at the hands of mutated creatures born out of the black substance. She indeed finds out that the Engineers were going to release the black substance on Earth to eradicate humanity, and Shaw is bound and determined to try to stop them. It's also revealed that Vickers is the daughter of the elderly CEO of the Weyland Corporation, Peter Weyland, played by Guy Pearce, who is aboard the ship in stasis.
Shaw finds out that the Engineers are unhappy with humanity and want it eradicated. The surviving crew attempts to flee the moon as the Engineer wakes up from stasis and pursues them. David communicates with the Engineer, and he learns that they had, in fact, created humanity but are disappointed in it now for some reason. Shaw is able to escape the moon, thanks in part to the remaining android, David, who has his own motives in this circumstance. However, the Engineer survives and makes his way toward Earth.
They finally embark in the direction of finding the Engineers' home world for answers about the creation of humanity, and they also seek to potentially stop them from carrying out their destructive plans on Earth.
