Annabelle Comes Home (2019) - Annabelle is released
"Annabelle Comes Home," directed by Gary Dauberman and released on June 26, 2019, in the USA by Warner Bros. Pictures, is a horror/mystery film with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. Serving as a prequel to "Annabelle," the movie follows Judy and her babysitter who find themselves alone in the house after Judy's parents leave to investigate a case. However, their night takes a terrifying turn when an unexpected guest unleashes Annabelle, a malevolent doll, and triggers a series of demonic events within the house. With an IMDb rating of 5.9/10 and 74% of Google users enjoying the film, "Annabelle Comes Home" received mixed reviews, earning 64% on Rotten Tomatoes and 53% on Metacritic. Despite this, it proved to be a commercial success, grossing $231.3 million worldwide. Cinematography by Michael Burgess adds to the film's eerie atmosphere, immersing viewers in its chilling narrative.
The film is set in 1971 and follows the events after the
Warrens, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine, acquire the malevolent doll,
Annabelle, and lock it away in a glass case in their occult museum. Before
leaving on a trip, they entrust their daughter, Judy, to the care of their
babysitter, Mary Ellen. Mary Ellen invites her friend Daniela, who is curious about
the Warrens' work, to the house. While exploring the artifacts in the occult
museum, Daniela inadvertently unlocks Annabelle's case, releasing the doll and
unleashing a wave of supernatural terror.
As the night progresses, the house is plagued by paranormal
occurrences. Annabelle manipulates other haunted artifacts in the museum,
bringing them to life and terrorizing Mary Ellen, Daniela, and Judy. The girls
are forced to confront their deepest fears as they struggle to survive the
night. Among the artifacts awakened by Annabelle is the Ferryman, a
demonic spirit that preys on the souls of the living. The girls must find a way
to banish the Ferryman and reseal Annabelle's case before it's too late.
With the help of Judy's knowledge of the occult and Mary
Ellen's resourcefulness, they attempt to contain the evil spirits and protect
themselves from harm. They also seek assistance from Bob, Mary Ellen's crush
and a friend of Judy's family, who becomes embroiled in the supernatural chaos. As the night reaches its climax, Ed and Lorraine return home
to find the house in chaos. Together with Mary Ellen, Daniela, and Judy, they
confront the malevolent spirits and perform a ritual to banish them back to the
other side. In a final showdown, Daniela sacrifices herself to save Judy
from the Ferryman, allowing the others to complete the ritual and seal
Annabelle's case once again. The evil spirits are banished, and the house
returns to normalcy.
The film ends with the Warrens reassuring Judy that they
will always protect her and continue their work to combat evil in the world.
Despite the night's horrors, Judy and her friends emerge stronger and more
resilient, ready to face whatever challenges may come their way.
