"Ghost" is a romance-thriller 1990 film by Jerry Zucker which reveals its brilliant story within 2 hours and 7 minutes. Its IMDb is pretty solid: 7.1/10, while the film has gained 75% in Rotten Tomatoes and 76% of Google users' approval. The story is about very deep love between Sam and Molly, which gets brutally disrupted because Sam became the victim of an attacking thug. As the spirit of Sam remains in limbo, he finds that Molly is in grave danger and, not being able to talk to her directly, seeks the aid of a psychic. Released on 13 July 1990 in the USA and with the deal handled by Paramount Pictures, 'Ghost' is a movie that intertwines genres of romance and thriller as Sam tries to save Molly from the impending danger. Adding this hit song, "Unchained Melody", just increases the depth of emotion in this film. The film tells the story of Sam Wheat, a banker, and his girlfriend Molly Jensen. The lives of the protagonists are utterly changed when Sam is murdered in a mugging. Instead of continuing to the afterlife, he turns into a ghost and finds out that his death was not an accident. As a ghost, Sam is all but invisible and completely incapable of communicating with Molly in any way. He strongly resents being an helpless bystander while Molly suffers under the crushing burden of his murder. This frustration mounts as he discovers that his killing was engineered by his close friend and business partner Carl Bruner, who has doubtful dealings with a money launderer named Willie Lopez.
Desperate to warn and protect Molly, Sam encounters Oda Mae Brown, a sham psychic who surprisingly can suddenly hear him. Skeptical at first, soon Oda Mae believes Sam's presence and acts as his interlocutor to Molly. Through Oda Mae, Sam warns Molly that she is in danger and tries to unravel the conspiracy surrounding his murder. Carl becomes increasingly suspicious of Oda Mae and her role while trying to cover his tracks.
As the story unfolds, the theme of love from Sam and Molly is prevalent. Sam finds ways in order to move objects on Earth and attempts to utilize that skill in order to reach out to the living. Of course, Oda Mae brings a number of comedic and powerful moments whenever trying to help them uncover the criminal activities of Carl. In one final confrontation, Sam and Oda Mae obtain evidence of Carl's wrongdoing and expose him to Molly. Eventually, Carl gets caught and arrested, but more importantly, Sam finally has closure that Molly is safe. The movie ends with Sam meeting Molly one last time and proclaiming his undying love before crossing into the afterlife. This is a film that combines romance, fantasy, and suspense-all with great performances and memorable moments.
