Siccin 4: Shadows of the Past

"Siccin 4" follows Yılmaz, a successful businessman, and his wife, Yıldız, as they move into Yılmaz’s childhood home with their two children, Buğra and Büşra. They have returned to care for Yılmaz’s ailing mother, Saadet, who is bedridden and mentally unstable, often muttering about ghosts and curses. The house is large but old, filled with memories and an eerie sense of foreboding. Saadet’s condition demands constant attention, straining the family’s already tense dynamics. Yıldız tries to maintain normalcy for the children, but the oppressive atmosphere of the house starts to take its toll. Shortly after moving in, strange occurrences unfold. Objects move on their own, unsettling whispers fill the air, and Buğra and Büşra begin to experience disturbing visions. Yılmaz dismisses these incidents as childish imagination, but Yıldız grows increasingly alarmed. In the attic, Yıldız discovers an old chest containing photographs and items from Yılmaz’s ancestors, including a diary filled with dark secrets. It reveals that the family is cursed due to their forebears' involvement in black magic and heinous rituals, passing down misfortune and death through generations.

As the supernatural events intensify, Saadet’s behavior becomes more erratic. She warns Yıldız about the curse and begs her to leave the house, but Yıldız, torn between disbelief and concern, stays. Consulting a religious cleric, Yıldız learns the house is haunted by malevolent spirits bound by the curse. A cleansing ritual performed by the cleric only agitates the spirits further. Yıldız discovers the curse originated from the betrayal and murder of a wronged family member who sought revenge through dark means. This restless spirit now seeks retribution from the living family members. The cleric advises that to lift the curse, they must perform a specific ritual to atone for past sins and offer a significant sacrifice. The spirits grow more aggressive, leading to terrifying encounters. In a moment of lucidity, Saadet sacrifices herself to appease the spirits, but her death only strengthens the curse’s power. The spirits claim Buğra, leaving the family heartbroken and desperate.

Determined to end the curse, Yıldız decides to confront it head-on. With the cleric’s guidance, she performs the ritual, confronting the vengeful spirit and asking for forgiveness. In an intense and harrowing sequence, Yıldız faces the horrifying past of Yılmaz’s family and makes a heartfelt plea for mercy. In the final confrontation, the vengeful spirit embodies the rage and pain of generations. Yıldız's sincere remorse and willingness to make amends touch the spirit, which finally finds peace. The curse is lifted, and the spirits are banished. The film concludes with the family trying to rebuild their lives. The house, once a place of terror, is now free of its dark legacy. However, the trauma of their experiences lingers, a haunting reminder of the price paid to end the curse and the enduring strength of love and sacrifice.
