Interview three individuals who claim to be monsters
"The Monster Project" is a 2017 film directed by Victor Mathieu, which tells a story of a group of aspiring filmmakers that takes on a project to interview three individuals claiming to be monsters: one a vampire, one a demon, and one skinwalker. Things start to get weird once cameras begin rolling and the line between reality and fiction gets blurry. Made on a budget of 250,000 dollars, the movie received mixed reviews at the rate of 4.5/10 on IMDB and an approval rate of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, 63% of Google users liked the movie despite the polar reception. The story, written by Sharia Lynn and Victor Mathieu, is distributed by Epic Pictures Group and features music by Emir Işılay and Pinar Toprak. First released in theatres on 18 August 2017 in the United States, "The Monster Project" is a redefining supernatural adrenaline-filled horror-action movie.
These interviews, which Jamal spearheads, are for filmmakers to understand the participants' background and experiences. These interviews make the audience aware of various struggles and challenges that each faces due to their supposed supernatural identities: Shiori, who claims she is a vampire; Bryan, claiming he was possessed by a demon; and Dakota, who says she is a skinwalker.
Shiori-the vampire-complains about the inner fight she has with bloodlust, saying she wants a cure from her state. Bryan describes all the terrible experiences he has passed through possessing a demon and how it has caused him to destroy his life, lose people close to him, and fight for control. Dakota shares about being turned into a skinwalker and what she goes through, which makes her struggle with her humanity as she tries to be supernatural.
As the interviews progress, there is an instant divide between the participants as skepticism and doubt begin to call one another's words into question. Skeptical still, the filmmakers choose to continue their project by taking the group deep into the countryside to a secluded house and hooking up cameras at each corner of the room to record any paranormal occurrence that might take place. As nighttime falls, cameras begin to roll and strange, haunting occurrences build up in the house little by little. The participants act in strange ways and show powers that apparently confirm they are indeed supernatural entities. As the night wears on, however, it becomes ever more muddled exactly what the participants' natures are and which way is reality versus delusion.
Soon enough, the house turns into a maelstrom of panic and fear as filmmakers find themselves confronting manifestations so terrifyingly real that border on impossible to believe-just like what many have been saying about those supernatural powers of the participants. As the horror escalates to a blood-curdling showdown in which all their lives come into play, suspicion mounts over the motives and identities of the participants. The climax of the thriller plunges filmmakers right into the heart of an inner fight with their demons and fears, coupled with the terror manifestations that are external to them. When the true monsters are revealed, survivors are left to come to grips with the chilling realization of what really exists beyond the comprehension of human minds.
In essence, "The Monster Project" explores belief and perception, with a tinge of dark within each and every one of us. This will be forced upon the audience with the realization that maybe there are some things in reality that actually exist around us and cannot be explained by reason.
