John Cena's Hilarious Stint at the Oscars Raises Eyebrows and Laughter
During one of those quintessential 'only at the Oscars' moments this year, Hollywood heavyweight John Cena brought the house to tears during this year's 95th Academy Awards in the most unexpected manner of making the presentation for Best Costume Design. The comical incident started with the host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly took a throwback to the 1974 Academy Awards, during which there was a streaker who appeared to run onto the stage. He couldn't resist ribbing the crowd, exclaiming, "Can you imagine if a naked man ran across the stage today? That would be insane, right?"
From the side of the stage, Cena popped his head around the curtain and jokingly indicated that he did not want to streak. "It's a classy affair. Really, you should be ashamed of yourself even making that tacky suggestion," Cena scolded, and continued, "The male form is not to be mocked!"
The always quick-witted Kimmel shot back by referring to Cena's wrestling days in the WWE and said he wrestles naked. Immediately, Cena responded with, "Dude, I don't wrestle naked. I wrestle in jorts!" And with that, the audience erupted in laughs as Cena, holding an oversized envelope for the winner and strategically placed over certain areas, walked to the center of the stage shamelessly, leaving everybody in shock and humor. "Clothing is a form of art, and costumes are integral to the storytelling process in cinema. Maybe the most important thing there is," Cena said before moving on to the actual reason for his appearance-presenting the award for best costume design. The winner, they announced with the help of Kimmel, who playfully wrapped Cena in a curtain to make him less exposed, was Holly Waddington for her work on "Poor Things," and well-deserved it was.
While Cena's apparently nude display stopped the show, a source close to the production told CNN he "was covered in the groin and butt crack area – and the envelope was velcroed to him." The extra precautions were presumably taken because of FCC regulations. These antics by Cena became the talk of town as the night progressed. Many people even wondered if, perhaps, the multi-talented actor was going to require an especially designed outfit for the after-party itself. It is yet to be seen what other sartorial surprise John Cena will be pulling out in future red carpet events.
