"E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" is an immortal 1982 family science fiction movie by Steven Spielberg. The movie is a heartwarming tale that has lasted for 1 hour and 55 minutes. This highly anticipated movie has won an amazing 7.9/10 from IMDb, an outstanding 99% from Rotten Tomatoes, a great 7.5/10 from Filmaffinity, and a very commendable 79% from Google users, amply managing to secure this movie's place within the hearts of its viewers. It is a story about a quirky little kid, Elliot, who discovers that there is an alien stranded on Earth. Trying to keep the alien hidden is not easy; soon Elliot and his siblings become emotionally attached to the newly found friend.

The movie opens when an extraterrestrial crew composed of botanists is hovering in the Earth's atmosphere. Then, some accident occurs in which the spaceship has to abandon Earth abruptly, forgetting one of its mates behind. This alien, abandoned, later comes to be known as E.T., and Elliott finds him in the backyard of his suburban house. Elliott is a young boy who is also attempting to get adjusted with the recent separation of his parents. He decides not to disclose E.T.'s existence to anyone. He introduces E.T. to his siblings: Michael, played by Robert MacNaughton, and Gertie, played by Drew Barrymore.The children take an instant liking to the alien, magical in his own way; he possesses telekinetic abilities.

As Elliott and his siblings work at concealing E.T. from the grown-ups, E.T. starts to develop a sort of psychic bond with Elliott. Their friendship grows closer, and E.T. reveals homesickness for his kind and the urge to contact his own species. E.T. becomes sick because of Earth's atmosphere, and as he gets worse, so does Elliott. The government finds out about E.T. after a series of unexplained events begin to occur in the neighborhood. Thus, an investigation follows, and a plan is laid out in an exciting and intense bid for escape on the part of Elliott and his friends to get E.T. back to the spaceship.

The film's climax occurs in a frenetic chase scene on Halloween night, as the kids, all dressed in Halloween costumes, fly E.T. to the forest on bikes for a rendezvous with the spaceship while being pursued by government agents. There's the tearful good-bye scene where E.T. tells Elliott goodbye and thanks him for the friendliness of his hospitality. The spaceship returns, and E.T. goes aboard and leaves Earth. The movie ends with Elliott and his family being reunited.

It's been said of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" that this is that film which carries, within filmgoing history, an emotional texture of magic in storytelling along with iconic imagery that has made it a favorite.
